Graveyard Keeper 2 beginner guide: travel, tasks and priorities

Graveyard Keeper 2 puts you in charge of a cemetery and the Town you reclaim around it. Follow the requirements of your current objective before gathering or unlocking another station. Milestones shorten travel, while Town restoration and skilled zombie workers open new ways to supply the next job.

You do not need to finish the first game to understand the sequel. Its story introduces the world to newcomers, although returning players will recognise some characters and ideas. Familiarity helps with the tone; it is less reliable as a guide to mechanics. Travel, zombie development and the graveyard layout all deserve a fresh look.

Outdoor workbenches and the garden are part of the same preparation loop: gather what your next job can actually use.

Use Milestones instead of looking for a Teleportstone

Fast travel uses Milestones between unlocked locations. The old Teleportstone is not the sequel's travel system. An unfamiliar destination is not necessarily a missing item in your inventory: first check which locations you have opened and which Milestones you can use.

Before leaving the work area, compare the materials you need with the places you already intend to visit. A trip that combines a quest delivery with collecting a required resource is more useful than another circuit made just to discover you left the finished item behind. Once more locations are unlocked, revisit the route rather than continuing to walk the same long loop out of habit.

A Milestone on a town path. Fast travel connects unlocked locations rather than relying on the original game's Teleportstone.

Separate finding a character from waiting for a weekly task

Quest characters generally remain at their regular locations, but that does not make every associated activity available every day. Weekly restrictions still exist. Finding someone and being able to complete their special activity are two different checks.

When an objective stalls, read its remaining condition before waiting through another week. Is it asking for a resource, a completed improvement or the right day? Resolve the condition that is actually shown. This is especially important once you start arranging Town battles and trips into the sewers: those two combat activities do not share the same schedule.

Buy a useful chain of unlocks, not an isolated machine

The Tech Tree returns alongside a talent system. A new station is valuable when you can supply it and use its output. Trace the inputs to the station you want, then identify a use for its output.

For example, deciding to equip troops creates a production question as well as a combat question. A weapon unlock without the materials to make the weapon does not prepare a squad. The same reasoning applies to a building that expands production but leaves its output waiting for another unavailable step.

The Building branch connects resource processing, construction and equipment. Check the prerequisites around the unlock you need.

Keep workers, the Town and the cemetery connected

Zombies can take repetitive work off your hands, but their development is not the original game's white-skull efficiency calculation. In Graveyard Keeper 2, corruption and red skulls matter to a zombie's skill potential. Read the zombie worker and red-skull guide before removing parts simply because you remember wanting fewer red skulls in the first game.

Restoring the Town opens businesses and markets, while a growing population also affects the supply of bodies. The cemetery is still outside the Town, close to your base. Its expansion uses graveyard modules, so an old game's finished layout is not a ready-made plan for this one.

Zombie workers operate production stations in the Town Workshop while the Keeper handles other tasks.

Can you continue a demo save?

The launch announcement confirms that demo progress carries into the full game. That is a reason to continue an existing run rather than restart solely because the demo ended. It is not a promise of moving saves between different platforms or accounts.

The full game released on 22 September 2026. A same-day hotfix addressed cases where pre-order bonus content was missing from existing saves. Missing bonus content is therefore not, by itself, evidence that you need to discard the save. Keep the distinction clear: a fix for an eligible pre-order bonus does not mean every new purchase receives that bonus.

For your next session, pick one unfinished objective, check its material and day requirements, and make that the centre of your route. The longer-term systems become easier to understand when each one is solving a real job rather than competing for your attention at once.
