Keeper
Dialogue
Well... just keep at it. You've been pulling at them for years.
Come on, don't give up that easily!
I have a feeling you're almost there!

KeeperI need something to open it with.

KeeperI guess I need to equip the pickaxe first.

KeeperI... I just can't.
You're probably too weak and hungry. Do you see any food?

KeeperStill won't budge.
Well did you eat the mushrooms, genius?

KeeperThe chains won't let me move.

KeeperThis pickaxe will do the job.

KeeperThe second one feels stronger though.
Those fairies, I never trust them...

KeeperIt's still so sturdy...

KeeperTo open my inventory, I need to press <key name="GameKeyCharacterWindow">.

KeeperI think I see some mushrooms.

KeeperYes, I'm free!
Great job! What determination! Now get me outta this sarcophagus.
Very nutrient rich... and maybe even a little hallucinogenic he he...
Wake up, Keeper!
Don't make me bite you!

KeeperOuch!
What the...

KeeperWhere am I? Who are you?
You can call me Soul... and it's time for you to step forward!
It took you eight years to ruin this world... Now it's your destiny to save it.

KeeperSounds kind of... debatable... anyway, looks like I'm all chained up here.
I'll set you free, but you have to save us all. Do you promise?

KeeperOk, sure...
Hooray!

KeeperOne chain down...
Oh, this is harder than I thought... there's simply not enough faith left in the world...
I won't be able to break the second chain...

KeeperWell then, looks like saving the world will have to wait.
This is no joke... Time is short... Summon me as soon as you can...
Hey pal... Are you back? And conscious?

KeeperYeah, yeah...
Who are you?
Where are we?
Larry. Nice to meet you. We've been roommates for nearly a decade... he he.
A five-star Inquisitor dungeon — where torturing is maintained at an exquisite standard.

KeeperI don't remember... Do I know you?
We've never had a chance to talk. You're always in the middle of being tortured...
Or unconscious... since the Inquisitors packed up and left...
But never mind all that... Now that the fairy helped you, we might actually have a chance!

KeeperAlright, you stupid barricade. Game on!

KeeperThis place looks long abandoned, Larry...
By the way, I never had a chance to ask your name.

KeeperI'm not sure... all my memories feel like bad dreams.

KeeperThe fairy called me Keeper.

KeeperThat's a good name... I like it.
Ok, Keeper... let's move.

KeeperHm... Looks like they were defending themselves from something...
Maybe... although everything looks safe enough now.
So...

KeeperSo what?

KeeperLarry is right, we need to go the other way.

KeeperI can't get past this barricade.

KeeperHey, mister!

KeeperHey!
Whoa, this is a pretty nice place.
So grab an axe... Clear the path.
Hey there's a guy over there.
Urrrrrrrrr

KeeperWhat?

KeeperNow what? The bridge is blocked.
And it's getting dark.
How did you even get to this part of the Town?

KeeperWell... I was just wandering around, you know...
Just like that?
A guy who sleeps in the most dangerous part of the town...
You're something else, you know. What is your name?

KeeperUmm, it's Keeper.... You can call me Keeper.
Anyway, we'll need to hurry for the last bit.
Make sure the zombies don't catch you.

KeeperThe who?
Move!

KeeperLets hide in that building with the massive door.

KeeperYeah. They even have a bed here, and some cheese.
Must be good cheese if they're even eating it in bed.

KeeperLet's start a fire. There's already a hole in the roof for the smoke.
No, no we better keep a low profile, at least until we know more.
Eat your cheese and go to bed. I'll stand guard.
You can trust your skull friend. He he.

KeeperI just hope nothing falls on me through that hole while I'm sleeping.

KeeperHey Larry... are you sleeping?
Urrrrrrrrr
I can't... it's part of being a skull.

KeeperEverything is so... deserted...
Wake up...

KeeperLet's get closer.
Ask Larry for help

KeeperYeah... at first it was so unbelievable, but now...

KeeperWhat happened here...? Where is everybody?
No idea... the place doesn't look like I remember it.

KeeperThe fairy told me I ruined everything...
Don't worry... Looks like things went south while you were busy swinging in chains.

KeeperRight...
Anyway, we need to find somewhere quiet and safe to lay low.

KeeperIt's quiet here... but it definitely doesn't feel safe.
Agreed... let's keep moving.

KeeperWhere do we even go?

KeeperDid you understand anything he said, Larry?
Not sure. He might have said go left then down.
Or it could have been something about your mother. He he...

KeeperHow could he be so rude?!
Hey, I haven't had a chance to ask... how did you end up in the Inquisitor's dungeon?

KeeperWell... it all started in a place far, far away...
We better not follow this street... the gate leads to the palace.
And you know what the palace means, right?

KeeperWhat?
Guards, my friend...

KeeperYou're right... we want to avoid any guards...
Do you hear that bell?

KeeperYeah... very grim.
Shh! Do you hear that? —

KeeperYou know the rest...

KeeperThe sad part is, I couldn't die there... But it was still very painful...

KeeperSo maybe I lost some part of my mind...

KeeperSomeone's on the roof!
Don't be scared. You're with Larry now.
Go to sleep.
Sard...

KeeperAre you okay?!
Who are... Never mind — run!

KeeperWait, what's happening?!
No time to explain!
Follow me if you want to live!
Look... the ruins of an ancient god's temple...

KeeperCan't think of a better place for a graveyard...
It's the closest thing to a holy place we're gonna find...
There's even a spot for a cozy little morgue..
Sounds like an easy job to me.

KeeperLet's move... and check out our new property.
Make a joke.

KeeperWho knows... maybe it comes with a complimentary skeleton for you.
Ha ha... hilarious! You're on fire...
Excuse me... but we may have a problem.

KeeperWhat kind of problem?
The Nun said that... a filthy animal like me can't desecrate a holy place.
She... she said she'd send me to the slaughter house once she takes over.

KeeperCome on... She seems like a nice lady. She was probably just joking.
I don't know... Larry seems to think otherwise.

KeeperThen maybe you should ask Larry for help instead of me.

KeeperHey, where's the body?
I'm kinda on strike...

KeeperWait – you? On strike? I thought we were done with your whole commie phase.
Yeah yeah, no more red flags... But this time it's the unbearable working conditions.

KeeperWhat are you talking about?
That awful, scary woman. – She hates donkeys.

KeeperYou mean the Nun?
Yes! And now she's staying in the old well house... at the crossroads.

KeeperSo?
She's ordered... in the name of the Church... that all corpses are to remain with her for a time.

KeeperThat's... weird. So you're refusing to collect bodies from her?
Definitely.

KeeperAny idea why she's doing this?
Of course I... I mean – no! No idea. She's just weird, okay?

KeeperAlright, fine. I'll talk to her. Those corpses need to get moving again.

KeeperI've got big plans for them.
Zombie Resurrection

KeeperThe fairy from the swamp told me that you know how to resurrect corpses... how to make zombies.
Who, me? That must be some other donkey.

KeeperYeah, sure... there are so many talking donkeys in the graveyard business.
Alright, alright. Maybe I have... a book! The book may help you.
I've got some problems I need solved. You want the book? Help me out first.

KeeperLook who's talking. What if I just fired you? Remember — "Better to have a job than be turned into stew."
Ha! That was a long time ago — before the Town started getting back on its feet.
Nowadays, a clever donkey like me has plenty of options.
Lucky for you... hauling corpses is my true calling!
So, do we have a deal?

KeeperNecro....? Ok never mind, it's a deal.

The bell.

KeeperBattle available on

KeeperWe use a little bell to make the zombies go away, but I still don't quite understand how it works.

KeeperCan you tell me more about these mysterious bells?
There's a bell somewhere in the town center.
Actually... there's two. A morning one and an evening one.
Hmm... sounds like the same one to me.
I used to sing in the church boys' choir. I know a thing or two about bells.
Anyway, the first time people started turning into zombies, that bell was ringing in the evening.
Yeah... we had zombies before that, but they weren't aggressive, and only the dead could turn.
It rings every
morning, and most of them seem to withdraw back to the town center. Not all of them, but most.
Yeah... probably the ones who sang with you in your choir.
And the evening on the same day, a second bell rings and the zombies come back again.

KeeperHmm... who do you think is ringing the bell?
We have no idea.
- Looters Order Ready
Three carrots a day, Comrade Donkey, one two okay!
La la la...
I see you're smiling... did you finally get that zombie book?

KeeperYes... it should have all the answers.
So, I see you're doing pretty well helping the Town.

KeeperYeah... those people need someone to look after them.
And naturally, that someone is you.

KeeperIt's nice to feel like I'm needed... you know?
Yeah, yeah... but do they actually need your help?

KeeperI think they do.
How goes the day, master of the Town?

KeeperMe? I'm just a humble Graveyard Keeper.
Good. Now you just need a decent place to raise the dead.
I expect it's just like cooking — better ingredients, better results.

KeeperWhat does cooking have to do with it?
I'm not so sure... those capitalist bastards got exactly what they deserved.
They did everything they could to drag the town into chaos.

KeeperHey, I thought you moved past all that.

KeeperGood to see you in such a good mood.
Yeah... who happens to own the town.
Without you, this place would fall apart.

KeeperYou're being dramatic... They have a Town Head and... other important people.
You know, Larry isn't half bad... not as good as the last skull, but still.
Ha ha... still, a dark hat and a red eye would suit you nicely.

KeeperWhat are you talking about?
There was one guy a long time ago who did everything for these people.
Didn't end well... ha ha.

KeeperYou always talk in riddles.
Anyway, it's a fine day for a donkey to work for your monopoly.
Oh, I mean... better corpses make better zombies.

KeeperThat's quite a disturbing analogy.
Yeah, yeah... I'm just a humble donkey trying to earn a carrot.
I taught him how to drink. Ha ha...
And we scared the life out of the Nun...
Larry was riding me, and we were singing songs... ha ha.

KeeperI guess it's good you're having a good time. If it doesn't affect your job, of course.
Hey... who makes all the beer we drink? Who's the one spoiling the town?

KeeperExcuse me?
They don't make anything. The town is full of traders and shops... nothing but buying and selling.
But I get it... the worse the people — the better the corpses!

KeeperHmm... I guess that's one way to look at it.
Don't worry about it. We're all doing just fine.

KeeperFull retreat!

KeeperDown into the sewer, quickly!
I found myself in this world, and a man with a red eye gave me the job of Graveyard Keeper.
But my only real goal was to return to my wife.
Long story short... I learned about a portal that could send me home.
Eventually I figured out how to activate it.
But instead of sending me home, it brought my love here.
Apparently, by using the portal, I broke some ancient contract.
After that... everything started falling apart.
And just so you know... it all happened because of the man with the red eye.
So I decided to use the portal one more time, to punish him and take away his power.
But instead it corrupted me... and I couldn't stop making new wishes.
Instead of going home, I wished for power and wealth.
Until our friends destroyed the portal.
Then I cursed all of them... the whole Town...
In a desperate attempt to restore the portal, I raised an undead army.
It's alright, darling... you were possessed.
Yes, my dear. Your love saved me... it gave me the strength to get rid of the eye.

KeeperIt was my usual Friday, in my usual world...

KeeperSomeone special was waiting for me at home after work.

KeeperSometimes, your routine and your chores slowly wear you down...

KeeperBut even in the everyday world, there's a place for loving and feeling loved.

KeeperEven when you know someone is already a little nervous...

KeeperThen the darkness came...

KeeperThe man with the red eye was waiting for me... Talking about a new chapter in my life...

KeeperHe made a clone of me... or split me in two...

KeeperAnd then I found myself at the Inquisitor's headquarters.

KeeperThey accused me of witchcraft... And locked me in a dungeon...
